Learning how to cope during a pandemic has proven to be more difficult than any of us could have imagined. Many of us have suffered in different ways; falling ill, losing loved ones, losing jobs, decline in our mental health and in general, trying to deal with our lives being put on hold. Being a student, I am sure I speak for many of us when I say I am quite worried about my education and how the pandemic will affect my future.

While in a mix of emotions when I first heard about lockdown 3.0, I asked the Holy Spirit for some guidance. I was led to Matthew 14:13-21, the miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand people from five loaves of bread and two fish. The scripture shows:
When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” Matthew 14 (New International Version)
These verses helped me remember some very important things:
Reminder #1: There is nothing that God cannot do!
His disciples’ concerns about the crowd being fed, along with our day to day concerns, especially in this pandemic, are not too big for God! He can do all things and even more.
Reminder #2: Do your best and let God do the rest
Jesus instructed His disciples to feed the crowd, and however impossible it may have seemed, the disciples gave what they had to Jesus and allowed him to perform a miracle. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our worries and concerns that instead of running toward God, we run away from Him. In times like this, it’s important to open up to God and give Him room to work in our lives, in His timing and not our own.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (New International Version)
Guided prayer:
Heavenly Father, I pray that in these uncertain times you can bring me peace. Lord, help me learn how to cast my anxieties onto you as you say in your Word because you care for me. Lord, in these difficult times I pray that you use me to be a blessing unto others and allow me to be blessed by others. Give me the courage to fully let Go and put my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
